International House Riviera Maya is housed in two adjoining buildings, an elegant, colonial style house at the front, which has the school reception on the ground floor and two furnished apartments on the upper floors; and a large 3-storey building overlooking the garden at the back. This large 3-storey building was designed specifically for the school. This means that each classroom is the ideal size, they all have natural light and they are all have individual air-conditioning units that can make quite a difference when the temperature and humidity both begin to rise. What happens on the first day of school: On the first day of the course, if you have any prior knowledge of Spanish you have both an oral and a written entry test so that your level can be ascertained and you can be placed in the most appropriate group. The test normally takes around 40-60 minutes (depending on your level). Activities: IH Riviera Maya organises a regular programme of social activities in the school including welcome cocktail parties, conversation exchange evenings with Mexican students studying English, lectures on different aspects of Mexican and Mayan culture, film projections with commentaries, etc. We also organise excursions to some of the region's most interesting locations such as the ancient Mayan cities of Tulum and Chichen Itza; the island of Cozumel, famous for its coral reefs and marine life; or one of the region's many superb nature reserves.
