Glasgow is a vibrant city that was European City of Culture in 1990, European City of Architecture and Design in 1999 and beat the competition to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014. It hosts a wide range of museums (which are all free), art galleries, exhibitions and the city is well known for producing some world class rock music. It hosts the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet not to mention its numerous theatres and concert venues.
It is only 40 minutes from the capital – Edinburgh and 30 minutes from the start of the stunning Highlands. You therefore have the best of both the city and the remote highlands within easy access. Glasgow is well known for the warmth and hospitality of local people and it is this that makes Glasgow ‘the friendliest city in Scotland’. Live Language is next to Kelvingrove Park in the West End and only 10 minutes walk from the city. The West End hosts many boutiques, cafes, bars, clubs and a wide variety of restaurants.

With its stunning Georgian and Victorian architecture, and winding medieval streets, it’s easy to see why Edinburgh has been listed as a World Heritage Site.
The Castle dominates the skyline, perched atop the crags of an ancient volcano right in the centre of the city and both the Old Town and the New town are packed full of historical and cultural character.
Yet Edinburgh is not stuck in the past. In fact, the city is among the most vibrant, cosmopolitan cities in Europe and is regularly voted as one of the most desirable places to live in the world.
The capital is bustling with arts, culture, sports and attractions and is famous for playing host to the world’s largest arts festival, which takes place in August.
There’s plenty of open space too, with a large number of public parks and green areas right in the busy city centre. This is a city that knows how to be both ancient and modern. Our school is located in vibrant Leith, only 1.5 miles from the historic Old Town and a 3 minute walk from The Shore. Leith was famous for many things, mainly the industry connected with the docks which sadly underwent severe decline in the post-second world war period and continued until the 1980s. Since then however, Leith has undergone significant regeneration and is now a busy port with visits from cruise liners and the home of the Royal Yacht Britannia, Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre, and administrative offices for several departments of the Scottish Government. The council and government's 'Leith Project' provided a further economic boost. The shore area of Leith once renowned for its working men’s pubs and factories now hosts luxury apartments, trendy pubs, and cafes & restaurants set in charming surroundings. There is a real community feeling among the people of Leith and we believe that in Edinburgh, it really is the 'place to be'!
Our school is set in a Victorian tenement building that looks out on to the Leith Links park, where the very first game of golf was played. Many people believe that golf was first played at St Andrews but it was actually in Leith.

Transfer: Airport transfers from/to Edinburgh Airport are included in our net fees but we can provide costs for other airports on request.
What happens on the first day of school: On the first day at school all students sit a placement test to determine their level (unless this has been agreed or set beforehand). After the test, one of the Directors conducts an in-depth induction which is presented on our large cinema screen. The induction covers important information about the students' stay. After this the students have a break before going into their first class. Usually, on the first afternoon, all students take part in our interactive 'Get to Know Edinburgh' activity before going home for dinner. In the evening we usually have welcome parties which inlcude disco music, games and Karaoke.
Activities: We offer a wide range of options from leisure activities such as Scottish dancing or cinema evenings and local cultural visits such as Edinburgh Castle or Rosslyn Chapel to whole-day excursions such as a trip to the historic town of Stirling and the Wallace Monument.
One thing to bear in mind is that a historic visit to Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument is never just that with Mackenzie School – we always have extras, as mentioned above, ‘to keep you on your toes’!
The list of what we can do really is endless but we are sure that within that, there is something to suit everyone.
How to get to the school the first day: Generally, our hosts accompany students on their first day to school to make sure they know the way. Subsequently, students either walk or take the bus depending on where their host lives but for evening activities, we provide taxis to take the students home. This way they don't have to take buses or go walking when it's dark.
Visa information: We can assist students with obtaining their visas if required. What is included?: Our prices are always inclusive of the following services unless otherwise requested:
-Arrival and departure transfers (from/to Edinburgh airport)
-Full-board, shared room home-stay accommodation
-20 lessons per week of general English in classes of a maximum 12 students in each
-Wholesome packed Lunches made in school Mon - Fri
